House of Kabobs - A Taste of Persia in Sunnyvale!
Persian cuisine is one of the world's great gastronomies, full of fragrances and rich in spices. Food is at the center of Persian culture; it's integral to everything in the society. House of Kabob was established in Sunnyvale in 2007 by Iran's native, Ali Farrokhzad. This family-owned restaurant takes pride in serving authentic Southern Persian cuisine and Sunnyvale is lucky to have them.
"We use only fresh ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible, and our Kabobs and Koobidehs are marinated with real saffron. Our stews are recipes that have been passed down through generations – you won’t find anything like them anywhere else," says Ali.
As the name of the restaurant reveals, skewers of chicken, beef and lamb are at the heart of their menu. Some, like the saffron-marinated chicken kabob, are topped with a tangy sautéed barberry (tiny, tart, ruby-red fruits of the Berberis bush) sauce. The stews are also popular amongst visitors. The "Gheyme Bademjoon" is deliciously prepared with pieces of fresh lean beef, yellow split peas, roasted eggplant and their own tomato sauce.
The repertoire of dishes is fragrant, diverse and refined, based on complex family culinary traditions. They are imbued with fresh flowers and herbs like rose petals, fenugreek and mint; spices like saffron, sumac and cardamom; fruits like pomegranate and barberry; all kinds of citrus; and nuts, including pistachios and walnuts. If you're in a hurry, grab a wrapped kabob to go!
No Persian food experience would be complete without desserts. From traditional baklava to ice cream made with saffron and chopped pistachios, you will find a wide selection of sweets that celebrate the flavors of Iran.
Come experience the zest of Persia firsthand! The food will transport you to a different place and time, and we know you’ll love it.
