Fuego: Upscale sports bar downstairs, event space upstairs

Something new is coming to Fuego Grill and Sports Bar on Saturday nights as soon as March 2020: live, Latin-flavored entertainment that rotates week by week with different musical style. But fear not, says manager Leticia Jensen. If you’re into the DJ-and-banda music Fuego offers on Friday nights, that’s not going away. Also staying the same is all the sports you can catch at Fuego, an upscale grill on historic Murphy Avenue in downtown Sunnyvale. That never gets old, as the great thing about watching sports is that the possibilities are endless. Whatever the odds-makers may say, there is hope for the fans of even the lowliest of underdogs in any given game. You may have missed the sold-out 49ers-Chiefs Super Bowl party at Fuego Grill and Sports Bar but the Warriors and Sharks are still playing, and the A’s and Giants are oiling up their gloves for spring training. And Fuego, on historic Murphy Street in downtown Sunnyvale, is a great spot to catch a game while enjoying a spicy Latin-flavored meal and a drink in a pleasant environment.“This is a little more upscale sports bar where people can just come and relax not be all uptight. It’s a great place to meet friends or make new ones,” Jensen said on a recent Thursday afternoon as the 15 big screens carried either the Warriors and Celtics scrapping in Boston or a rerun of a heavyweight championship boxing bout. “And you don’t have a bad spot for TV in the whole house,”Oh, and Fuego has a sweet Happy Hour: 3-7 p.m. Monday through Friday for drinks, 4-7 p.m. for appetizers. On Sunday, happy hour typically runs from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.But that’s just downstairs. The upstairs, which includes a lovely rooftop terrace, is available for corporate parties and events. Fuego hosted an event for 300 googlers recently, Jensen said. She stressed that the food is Latin-influenced, not strictly Mexican. She seems especially proud of Fuego’s habanero wings. “A lot of people don't know this, but we make it from scratch,” she said.
