Begin a Child’s Reading Adventure at Bookasaurus

To grownups, Bookasaurus is a lovely children’s bookstore, filled with books and games and gifts that you’re proud to give. To kids it’s a place of magic and discovery, of wonder and unlimited ideas. From baby’s first book to games and toys that help develop a child’s love of learning, there is something here for every child from birth to age 10.

Every game and book staff tested and approved
“We hand-pick every item that’s in the store,” says owner Leigh Odum. “Before we stock games for children or children’s books, a staff member has taken a close look at it, whether that means it’s been read, played with, or field tested with their own families.”

Shoppers can go into the store knowing that there is someone on staff to help find just the right book (or game, or toy) whether it is for an aspiring geologist or a reluctant 8-year-old reader. Leigh says this is the big difference between shopping at Bookasaurus, and going to a big box store, where the staff has little idea what’s in stock.

Learning can be entertaining and fun
“Sunnyvale has a lot of young families, and the children’s section of Leigh’s Favorite Books was often overflowing” says Leigh when asked why she started Bookasaurus in 2012. The jam-packed storefront was a natural outgrowth of the enormously popular downtown bookstore started in 2004.

“I felt like downtown Sunnyvale needed a store devoted to great books, games and toys for kids. A place where developmental books and toys were available to kids, families and friends. A place that is a community resource for developing life-long learners. We have books and toys to encourage STEAM learning, to help babies learn how to interact with a book, and of course, the many always-popular books like “Good Night Gorilla” and The Diary of a Wimpy kid series.”

Leigh has brought the same customer-focused savvy to Bookasaurus that makes Leigh’s such a hit: free kids events many Sundays as well as seasonal activities (check the store for schedules), and in-store specialists who know how to help buyers choose the best gift and can provide gift wrapping. The store even has a kid-friendly registry where parents – or kids – can let their dream books be known. It started, Leigh says, when kids asked if they could post lists in the store of what they wanted as presents.
